Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) ⛽is a carbon-neutral fuel, that can help battle climate change. It’s all about putting waste to work.
Processing organic waste so that it is usable to create RNG is the core of what we do at Davidson Environmental.   We don’t actually do the final processing, that occurs in locations like Escarpment Renewables in Grimsby, or Generate Upcycle in London, and Alltreat Farms in Arthur to name a few. These locations leverage the separated organic waste we and others provide to create RNG, which is then injected into the natural gas grid, used to fuel vehicles or burned to create electricity.
This post is about giving a thumbs up đź‘Ť to the cities and processors who are contributing to making our world a cleaner place and reducing landfill use.
Escarpment Renewables – Grimsby – Generates electricity by burning the RNG they create. The electricity generated is fed to the Ontario power grid and generates 1 Megawatt of energy per hour, enough to power 830 homes. Any waste left from the process is used as organic fertilizer in local farms….that’s right, that means it is a zero waste process to create energy from organics.
RNG in South Western Ontario:
Hamilton – That large, Earth-shaped sphere you may notice as you travel through Hamilton is a biogas storage tank . It stores methane gas produced during the anaerobic digestion of wastewater sludge. The biogas is then used to power a co-generation unit that produces electricity and heat.  This contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a more sustainable wastewater treatment process in Hamilton.  A few of our fleet trucks here at Davidson Environmental are fueled by RNG.
Our close neighbour, Niagara Falls not only produced clean hydro electric power, but they are the largest Natural Gas facility in Ontario producing 24 million cubic metres of RNG a year.
